Teddy Bear Birthday

Just a quick post today.  Teddy Bear Birthday is a throw back stamp to celebrate 30 years of Close to My Heart.  You may recognize it if you pair it with a wood block.  That’s how it used to be sold.
It’s on its way back to the vault.  Thursday is its last day in production again.
This was one of the workshop cards from last Friday’s Fun & Fabulous 4th Friday Card Workshop.
card jubilee teddybear birthday
My friend was thinking of a Teddy Bear Picnic baby shower theme so I ordered this stamp a while back.  In keeping with the picnic theme, I chose the red gingham plaid paper from the Jubilee papers for him to “sit” on.
Once again, I used the CTMH Watercolor pencils.  I quickly and roughly colored over his fur except his muzzle.  I used our handy blender pen (the water based one, not the Alcohol marker) and smoothed it out.  I still had a bit of brown on the blender marker and it was enough to add a light coat of brown to his muzzle.  I couldn’t color it that lightly if I had tried!
These colored pencils are sticking around!  They’re a great, soft alternative to the blend-able alcohol markers.
Check back, this is one of my final posts of artwork for the Spring & Summer 2014 Idea Book.  I’ll be featuring artwork from the Annual Inspirations in the next few days!

I'm linking this post up with the Color My Heart Color Dare #103.  Hop on over there to see more artwork inspired by the colors in Jubilee.

Have you ever seen a Bendy Card?

Hello!  This is one of newest favorite styles of cards!  It’s a Bendi or Bendy card.  The design has been around for a bit but I discovered it this spring.

I used the soon-to-retire Balloon Ride paper pack for this card with the Lifting Spirits stamp set.

3d Card beny balloon ride front

It opens to show a hidden message and so it can fold flat for mailing (with a little extra postage).  There’s little tabs and slots that do all the work.  This is just a little card and fits in an A2 envelope.

I colored the airplane with the CTMH Watercolor pencils.  They’re so easy to use and when you purchase the blending marker, you can have soft, streak free coloring.

3d Card bendy balloon ride opening

Inside I used the Belated Birthday stamp set.

I’ve had a request for a 3D card workshop.  Stay tuned to hear the local details.  Let me know if you’d like a mail order kit!

As of today, there’s a few packs of Balloon Ride still available online.  Get it today before it’s too late!

Create Every Day – Day 3

I’m continuing my challenge of creating something everyday.  This was another use-up-my-stash card.  Everything was already cut except for the card-base which was great because I made a little improvement!

This is a great card with the ProPlayer papers that are being retired at the end of the month.  I also used the June Stamp of the Month

I’ve created this card before, but this time I changed the base a bit.  The card is actually 4x5.5” That allows me to get 6 of the blue background pieces from a single 12x12 sheet of paper.

It also allows me to cut 3 card bases from a 12x12 piece of cardstock.  Generally I’d start with a 4x11 piece but this time I didn’t trim it down, I scored at the 11” mark and made a pocket for a gift card.  I adhered the flap with some Scor-Tape.  You want this flap to be well adhered down and tight so the card doesn’t fall out.  Out of 3 of these cards, 1 of them is really tight.

Create Every Day–Day 2

I’m continuing my challenge of creating something everyday.   I created a TON of things this Independence Day holiday weekend. Most the cards I created were UFOs or Unfinished Objects left over from workshops.  I’m preparing my stash for a big sale in August.
Here’s the one for today’s challenge. It’s a brand new card that I created from scratch.
Day-2
This is a block card or baby block card.  It has various names and all of them usually point you to another card design.  I used this blogger’s instructions for my first card.  Her video’s great.  Really clear and you really only need to watch it halfway through to get the measurements.
All of the diecuts are from my stash, including the daisies that I had assembled a couple years ago. They’re from button 1 on the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.
This card folds flat!  I forgot to take a pic of that!  Maybe I’ll take more pix of the next card.
I’m off to my craft room!  Can’t wait to show you what’s next!

Create Every Day Challenge Day 1

I’ve created this little challenge for myself, to get back to creating every day.
Here’s day 1.

I used the Lollydoodle Paper Pack with the retired A Bow Wow.  Notice how I didn’t color in the whole dog?  Just a little bit of ink does wonders!  My workshop gals loved this card—especially the fact they didn’t have to color too much!
Lollydoodle is retiring at the end of the month!  Be sure to order and get yours before it runs out!

Don’t forget, that with a $35+ purchase, you can receive some exclusive Hostess Only goodies between now & 7/14/14.  Find out how by reading all about it HERE.
Be sure to follow my Facebook Page for ALL of the daily challenge posts.
Want to join me?  You don’t need any fancy pictures but I’d love to see what you’ve been creating.  Feel free to post a pic on the Crafty Lalia Facebook page

July Stamp of the Month

It’s blog hop time!

This month’s stamp of the month is Circus Alphabet!  It’s the last on in this current Idea Book and it’s especially fun.  Blog hops are especially fun because you get to see a huge variety of artwork.  If you’re already hopping you should have come from Traci Godbee’s blog.

You get the whole alphabet, upper and lower case along with a bit of punctuation in this set.

1407-sotm-stamp

I created a card using leftover scraps from the Lollydoodle Card Workshop on the Go.  I also added the monkey from the Wild Wonders baby stamp set

Card-July-Stamp-of-the-Month

I colored the uppercase with my Watercolor pencils from CTMH.  They’re making a comeback!  The colors are the same but you’re going to see a lot more artwork in the next months from me using these pencils.  They’re a very affordable and unique way to color.  You can blend out your streaks and create shading.

This set is only $5 when your order totals $50.  That amount can include ANYTHING from my website.  Please hop on over and check it out.  Come on back because I’m going to be having some of my own specials this month too!

Please hop over to Shirley Ross’ blog and enjoy some fine artwork.

If you’re finding other blogs that aren’t quite up to date, hop on over to Melinda’s blog for a full list of blog hoppers.  http://ifyoublingit.blogspot.com/p/stamp-of-month-blog-hop-list.html

Enjoy!

Paper Popsicles!

I’m shivering this morning!  But I know you’ll appreciate this cute and cool treat!

Close to My Heart’s Rediscover CTMH promotion this month is this cute little popsicle card printable.  Hop on over here to download it.

popsicles

However, I **hate** cutting out what my Cricut can do for me.  Isn’t that why I bought a Cricut, right?   And why I am head over heels with Close to My Heart’s Cricut Compatible Stamp sets

I had to create something on the Cricut.  I used Cricut Craft Room and the “Cricut Craft Room Basics” cartridge which is available to EVERYONE who used Cricut Craft Room to create this card.

popsicle card

You will want to trim the top of the stick off so it doesn’t look goofy.

Click here to get the free Popsicle CCR File.

If you’re going to make this a yellow popsicle, you better check your supplies!  Buttercup and Crème Brulee yellow are retiring!  Order an extra ink pad, reinker, cardstock or markers before they’re gone!  Here’s a link to all retiring CTMH products.

Enjoy!

Kaboom! The June Stamp of the Month

Kaboom and here we are starting the 6th month of 2014!  In blog-hop-land it also means that I get to introduce you to the next stamp of the month from Close to My Heart!  This month I’m joining 50 Close to My Heart consultants to showcase art from the June Stamp of the month.  From my blog you’ll hop through in a big loop and in the end you’ll end up right back here!
June SOTM CLOSE TO MY HEART FIREWORKS and KABOOM stamp set!
If you’re already on the hop, you should be coming from Shelia's blog.  If not, just hop on through the whole hop and you’ll find her as you complete the circle.  If you get lost along the way hop on over to Melinda’s blog for the MASTER BLOG HOP LIST.
Now for some fun! This set really is called KABOOM!  It features 14 stamps including 4 that match up with shapes on the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge.
Let's Celebrate, You're the Bomb, Pow, Kaboom, What a blast, Party, Independence Day, Fourth of July CTMH, SU
I grabbed this set a week ago to whip up this card below.
You're the Bomb Swing Card

It was super fast to put together if you’re not afraid of a little background stamping.
The card base is from Artiste.  It’s a swing card and can be found under the “S” key of the handbook.  Clever, eh?  There’s a few of these little tricks on this cartridge.  How about Movies & Mustache?  Where could we find them?  Psst… look on the M button!  I digress… but you should take a peek!
I used Crystal Blue cardstock along with scraps of Buttercup yellow patterned paper from Babycakes paper pack & the Lagoon striped from the Skylark papers for the dove-tailed banners.  A bit of Ruby Washi tape added some fun and tied the elements together.
I fussy cut the TNT sticks and popped them up with 3D tape.  I stamped the same image below so I would have perfect glowing TNT fuses.

If there’s ever been a card that has really been enhanced by sparkles, this is it!  Those fireworks just glow!

I designed this as a Father’s Day card for my Fun & Fab ladies on the 4th Friday workshop.  I think you’ll understand that I like patterns and mnemonics.  (They really help me and my Fabulous ladies).  I may make a couple extra and send them as thank you cards.
That’s all I have for you tonight.  I will have more posts up this month using these stamps so please hop on back!  For now, please hop on over to Judy's Blog check out her project.

Lovely Artbooking Card

There’s an incredible feeling to finishing a project.  Especially one that has been on your desk for 3+ months!  I created this card, with the Artbooking wood grain overlay months ago.  I even added the strip of Ivy Lane B&T papers across the bottom.

In April, I was met with a challenge to create a piece of artwork using a cartridge and one of the stamps that came in the bundle.  That was my call to action.

card-artbooking-and-ivy-lane-lovely

The Artbooking cartridge was designed for scrapbooking but its elements can be used in so many more ways than that!

You can get your own Artbooking Cricut bundle from my website today.  Or click here to see more about the CTMH Cricut Collections

April Stamp of the Month Blog Hop

No fooling!  It’s the last day of March and time to introduce the April Stamp of the Month
It’s a FUN stamp set that has so many possibilities!
But before we get started, I want to thank everyone who’s hopping through the monthly blog hop.  If you’re a hopper, welcome from { Maria’s blog },
I’ve been using a lot of the spring floral papers but it’s time to move on to the summer Jubilee paper pack.  I wanted a quick card that would showcase all 6 papers and showcase the fairly new scallop punch.
Here’s my quick card that I came up with.  I love simple cards because I can use them in my monthly card classes too!  I love being able to create one piece of artwork and reuse it throughout the month for workshops and quick notes to customers.

Look at all the fabulous words and shapes you can choose from!  I can’t wait to play and hook a few of the words together for some fun sentiments!

Love you a LATTE!

Check out this adorable card I whipped up last night.
I created this card using the free cut file of the week at MyScrapChick.com.  Usually you can only get these files when you sign up for their weekly newsletter.  They had a little glitch in the newsletter so the link is posted on their Facebook Page.  Run, don’t walk over there and grab the file!  If you don’t grab it before 3/27, you’ll find it on their dollar download page.
This file is for any cutting machine except the regular Cricut machines unless you have SCAL 2.  It’s Cricut Explore compatible!
While you’re there, sign up for their newsletter and like their Facebook page while you’re at it.  I don’t think I’ve ever posted on of their projects on my blog before but they have a special place in my heart.  They’re right up the road from me!

I used my Close to My Heart papers for this cup.  I LOVE the lagoon stripes in our Skylark Collection!  I also used Desert Sand, Cotton Candy, and Sweet Leaf Cardstock and matching inks when I inked the edges of the paper.  The flowers and leaves don’t come with their file.  You’ll find them on the CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge
What better than to use our Cup of Cheer Stamp set?
CTMH Cup of Cheer stamp B1404
It was also used on the inside of the card.
CTMH Love you a latte card B1404 Cup of Cheer
I had fun adding some giant flowers to the card. This would have fit into a standard A2 card if I hadn’t went crazy, BTW…
I used our Topiary Mini Chevron Ribbon and Teal Base & Bling collection.  Cloudy PNW skies really don’t capture how fun these jewels are.

Emboss It Blog Hop

Today’s post is part of a blog hop!  I love being part of blog hops because they feature some of the newest product Close to My Heart has to offer.  For this hop, we’ll be featuring the brand new 5x7 embossing folders that debuted in February!
To follow this hop, you can start here and click the link to the next blog at the bottom of my post.  If you’re already on the hop, welcome!  You should have arrived here from { Michelle Jones’ blog. } If you’re ever lost along the way, you’ll find a list of all the blog posts here.  (this will pop open in a new window and then you can come back here and keep hopping too!)
card-ariana-easter-pleated-paper-front
My card features the Ariana paper collection.  I started by pleated the beautiful floral paper by scoring it at 1” and 1/2” intervals and folding it.  I followed this tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers nearly exactly.
Here’s a couple of my tips:
  • If you’re going to make several of these cards, score the whole paper from top to bottom before cutting the strips.  You might even want to fold them a bit too.  Folding a large sheet is ultimately easier than folding 6 individual 2” strips!
  • Ink the bottom edge of my paper before folding (& attaching it to the card)!  I used Garden Green, a retired color since Olive was a bit too dark.
card ariana easter pleated paper
Next is the embossed band that holds the pleats in place and gives them a finished look. I cut my 1 x 4.25” strip and embossed it with our damask embossing folder.  I distressed it using our sanding block from the distressing kit to take the color off the raised edges.  Here’s the fun part:  I then inked the white exposed areas with Blush and Sorbet ink.  The coral color is exclusive to the Ariana paper pack so we don’t have an ink that matches.  This worked!  Use a light hand when inking.  Don’t saturate the paper or it will be very intense and bright.
For the label, I cut the shape from Art Philosophy in White Daisy at 2.25” as indicated on the Frame Flair stamp set.  The sentiment is from Greatest Love
For the Ariana Coral label that shadows the white, I used my Gypsy (It can also be done with Cricut Craft Room or Cricut Design Studio) to make it .25” wider AND taller.  It was also handy to layout the shape on my Gypsy since I only have 1 sheet of this beautiful Ariana Coral to work with.
If you just bump up your Cricut dial to 2.5” your label be a little disproportionate because it won’t be just .25” longer.  On this label, it’s not that much trouble.  (Just call me Obsessive Compulsive Cricut Perfectionist)The less square the shape is, the more noticeable it is.  You might thank me later when you do a skinny object.
Here’s where you’d see the distortion, on a long, skinny shape.  The less square shape.
image
So much for a simple looking card that had a pleated paper tutorial, embossing & distressing in one and a Cricut Craft Room tricks.  But guess what, we’re done!
Feel free to hop on over to { Katy Taylor’s blog } to see the next project!
Have a great day!

3D Box Card with Balloon Ride

Have you seen these 3D box cards?  They’ve been very popular since Splitcoast Stampers released their tutorial on the first of January this year.  I finally had a chance to make one a week ago.  They’re quite fun and simple to make!   If you’re worried that this is as complex as the 3D cascading card I made last year, it’s not!  There’s no fancy angles or a million pieces to stamp and adhere to the card.

I created this card from the Balloon Ride paper pack and the matching Give A Lift stamp set and Lifting Spirits stamp set.

Box-Card-with-Balloon-Ride-beveled

I used my watercolor pencils to color in the hot air balloons.  They pencils have the soft color that I was looking for.  I used our original blending pen to soften and erase my pencil strokes .  The clouds are from the Give a Lift stamp set. I stamped them on the blue paper and cut them out.  The crystal blue paper is on the opposite side of the paper that covers the flaps.  I love how CTMH gives us a variety of solid and bold patterns in our papers.   The sun is cut from Artbooking.  All of the embellishments are from the Rosewood Accents Mini-Medley collection.

Did you realize that this card can be mailed with a little extra postage?  It folds flat.

Mine didn’t want to cooperate for the camera but it will flatten enough to fit in an envelope.  The flattened size is 5.5” wide and 6.5” tall as created by the tutorial on the Splitcoast Stampers website.  I plan to modify this to be under 6” tall so it can fit in a 6x6 envelope.  (I’ll just make the base a little shorter).  You’re most likely going to pay extra for postage for the bulkiness and the embellishments, there’s no need to shy away from a square envelope at this point!

I’m going to be making a few more of these cards this spring.  We’ll be making a different one in my Fun & Fab 4th Friday card workshop on April 25th!  You can pre-order a workshop kit-to-go up until the day of my workshop.  Email me for details.  The workshops consist of 5 unique cards and are $18 shipped, with everything pre-stamped and pre-cut.  You’ll receive a $5 discount if you are a member of my Fabulous Friends CTMH team or place an order over $25 prior to the workshop!

Let me know if you make this card. I’ll post a pic of your work!

LEGO ™ style birthday card

Last week my son’s buddy from school had a birthday.  He’s a lover of all things Lego ™ so I thought a card made of building blocks would be fun.  I simply punched a few round circles and popped them up with foam squares.  I had cut my card base before determining the size of my blocks so they were a little too big to go all the way across the card perfectly.  I actually think it adds to the character of the card.

Do you recognize the “It’s a Celebration” stamp?  It’s a brand new stamp and it has NOT been featured in an Idea Book.  It was a gift to our Aussie consultants this spring.  They were so popular and fun that we begged CTMH to let us us them as well!  It’s from Hoppy Birthday D1597.  It’s one of 6 sets found in our Occasions stamp collections that were made for our Down Under friends.

Here’s the inside of the card.  More blocks and a simple Happy Birthday sentiment from our Joyful Birthday stamp set which is one of my favorites from last spring.

I can’t wait to play with this Hoppy Birthday stamp set more and color some adorable animals!

I've linked this up to Fabulous Cricut Challenge Blog, Challenge #200: Pick A Holiday.  Hop over there and see some other great projects!  I was inspired to join this challenge by Amy HS and her birthday card.  Take a look, she's one of the designers for this blog!  Go Amy!

Have a great start to your week!

March Stamp of the Month Blog Hop

Hello friends!  It’s that time again!  As we wrap up a month, we get to say hello to the new and upcoming Stamp of the Month.  And with that, we have a blog hop!  A hop is a big chain of blog posts that are linked so you can hop from one to another.  All of us are posting artwork for this month’s stamp of the month.  If you’re already hopping you should have just come from {Katy Taylor’s blog}.
This month I used the Balloon Ride papers and the Rosewood Mini-Medley Accents to complete my card.  I also used on of the card designs from Make it from Your Heart Vol 2.  I love this How To book!  It has quick and easy sketches complete with measurements for making beautiful well balanced cards and layouts.  I used Balloon Ride papers because I like their old world feel and simply because I haven’t had a chance to play with them yet.
I masked the rest of the words from “Home is our Happy Place,” so I could get the word happy.  I stamped on a scrap of paper and then cut a hole for the word happy.

I colored my little doll with our watercolor pencils.  I used Crystal Blue, Sorbet and Honey and then blended them to take out any pencil strokes with our water based blender pen.  If you blend too much, you’ll remove some of the color.  Please wait until the project is dry before coloring again.  The hard pencil tips will dent the paper rather than color it when the paper is damp.
I embellished the doll with some of the tiny gems that are around the larger gem that I used in the top left corner.  I tore that little gem apart to use each individual piece.  I must note that it was already damaged and missing a piece or two.  I didn’t didn’t tear into a perfect one.  But I like the effect so much that I might do it again.

Inside the card I have a little pennant bunting across the bottom and a strip of the sorbet balloon ride paper.  The bunting is the border from the sentiment “like mother like daughter.”  I CUT it from the stamp and then curved it on a block.  It’s super easy to do and I’ll be able to put it back together when I need to use the whole stamp.  Acrylix stamps are wonderful!

Here’s the adorable stamp set we’re working with this month!  It’s just $5 with a $50 purchase or the standard D-sized set price of $17.95 when purchased separately which you can do!  Either way, it’s only available in March!  Click here to shop
